Scheduling Procedure

There are several items we need to have prior to performing a PET scan. We know that you are very busy, so we have tried to streamline the process as much as possible for the referring physician's offices.

You should have a two page scheduling form from which should give us all the information we need prior to the exam.)

To schedule, simply call Clinical P.E.T. of West County @ 314.567.4343, give us the patient's name, date of birth, home phone number, clinical indication, insurance information, and when you want the procedure performed. We will then ask you to fax us the two page scheduling form along with a copy of the patient's insurance card, CT & MRI reports, pathology reports, recent H&P notes, and a signed physician request. We also need the patient to bring with them any CTs or MRIs they may have had.

It is important that we get the copy of the insurance card as soon as possible before the exam; we call to verify benefits even if your office already has.

  • The day before the exam, we will call the patient to verify the appointment, give directions and instructions. General patient instructions are as follows:
  • No food or drink for at least 4 hours prior to the exam
  • No vigorous exercise for 24 hours prior to the exam
  • Expect to be with us for at least two and a half hours. (Start an IV and inject FDG upon
    arrival, circulate for one hour, then scan for one hour.)
  • If the patient will need a catheter, we explain that to them on the phone the day before so you don't have to.

Diabetic patients should be scheduled in the morning.
**The patient must be 3-4 weeks out from chemotherapy and 4-6 weeks out from radiation therapy in order to avoid a false positive!**
